During a two-week birding blitz with my best friend this month, one of my favorite moments was seeing this grandmother teaching her granddaughter how to use binoculars for the first time to watch birds up close.
Over the years I’ve been noticing fewer and fewer kids at parks, on hiking trails, seeking out plants and animals in the woods or birdwatching. Are they all inside playing video games, or too busy sticking their faces in a screen?
It was refreshing to see a new recruit to the world of nature.
