Since March I’ve kept my pandemic outings to the grocery store plus one visit to Target. Okay, there’s one exception. I’ve been to the garden center three times now. I can’t help myself. If I’m going to be locked back up in my house once the cold weather arrives, I need some green stuff!
Last weekend I wanted to purchase some potting soil for some tulip and hyacinth bulbs I will be forcing. These lovely cyclamen accidentally dropped into my cart as well.
It looked like the garden center had just gotten a new shipment of fresh plants, so these had plenty of unopened buds on them. Last time I bought cyclamen, the plants bloomed for about 8 weeks. If I’m lucky, these will cheer up my north-facing bay window until about Thanksgiving.
Cyclamen are difficult houseplants to get to rebloom (or so I’ve read), so I consider them throwaway plants (much like these lovely mums in the background).
But in a pandemic it’s the little things that bring joy, and these throwaway flowers do just that!
