It’s been raining a lot in the month of May which is good because it officially removed us from a severe drought status that started last year. And because spring was so cold until our freaky week of mid-90-degree (F) record temperatures, all of our shrubs and trees went from bare to fully sprouted in a matter of days instead of weeks.
Even though that leafing out happens every spring, it can still be a surprise when you open the shades and realize you can no longer see across to your neighbor’s backyard or down the street. The backyard feels cozier. I’ve heard a lot of people mentioning how lush and green everything is right now. I don’t think it’s any different than any other year, but because it happened almost overnight, more people are noticing.
It’s just so good to see green after a long winter. There are so many shades of green, and they are particularly obvious on rainy days when the sun isn’t casting shadows. I took some photos of my hostas the other day during a rain shower. They are always the most colorful when they first open in the spring.
