Growing up, we used to find toads in our yard most summers. A lot of them would need to get rescued from the basement window wells after hopping in and not being able to get out again.
I’ve lived in my current house since the 1990s and I’ve never seen a toad in my yard. Wisconsin only has one toad species—the Eastern American Toad. I found this guy on a hiking trail just outside of our city yesterday:
Toads like moist areas, and this hiking trail was next to a creek. I saw plenty of spiders and slugs (toad favorites), so he picked a good place to live!
