It always amazes me to see how resilient nature is. My friend and I run into a lot of controlled burn areas when we are hiking in the spring. Last month we even came upon a few where some of the wood was still smoldering.
Yet there were birds flying in and out of the area and scratching around on the parched ground. And chipmunks were running to and fro as if this was a completely normal situation.
By late summer these areas will have 3-to-4-foot-tall grasses and wildflowers covering this same ground.
