Red means stop (and look at me)

Say hello to ‘Ruby Spider.’ There’s a reason this daylily routinely appears in popularity polls. This beauty has gigantic 9-inch, ruby-red blooms that scream “Look at me!” Photos do not do it justice.

This summer my ‘Ruby Spiders’ started blooming on the 4th of July, my own little fireworks display. After I couldn’t stop snapping photos of them, I knew I really needed to plant some in the front yard along our busy street so others could enjoy them. I just happened to be at a daylily farm in July and bought enough new daylilies to qualify for a $35 bonus (I know….craaaaazy laaaaaady). Instead of asking for a nice, pricey cultivar, I opted for 4 more ‘Ruby Spiders’. Two of the clumps were big enough to split, so I ended up with 6 new plants. They are now prominently displayed in the front yard waiting for the opportunity to stop traffic next summer!
