Flower Ideas: Show Me…Something Red

Salvia ‘Whopper Lighthouse’ is one of my favorite annuals because it’s so easy to sprout from seed, and the plants aren’t bothered by pests or diseases. Hummingbirds love the red flower spikes that reach 30 inches tall. I can always count on ‘Whopper Lighthouse’ to bloom right up until frost:

Tulip ‘Abba’ screams color. The double flowers are so bright that my camera struggles to bring them into focus. ‘Abba’ is a Double Early Tulip that grows 10 to 12 inches tall. The plants are very sturdy and easily put up with wind, rain and snow:

Daylily ‘Siloam Show Girl’ is ruby red with a darker red eye and yellow-green throat. I don’t grow a lot of small daylilies but I like ‘Siloam Show Girl’ because it makes a flashy front-of-the-border plant.

‘Siloam Show Girl’ grows 18 inches tall with 4-inch flowers. It’s a dormant daylily that blooms in the middle of the daylily season:
